101 Activities for Teaching ASL
Author: Angela Stratiy
Book design & illustration: Drury Stratiy
101 Activities for Teaching ASL was developed to support instructors teaching American Sign Language (ASL) to students of all ages.
The learning activities in this book are designed to be carried out in ASL (without voice or spoken English) and to reinforce and enhance ASL learning in fun and challenging ways.
Many of the activities involve interacting with others, a powerful way to practice ASL and develop confidence with the language.
101 Activities for Teaching ASL is designed to support instructors in achieving the ASL learning outcomes described in Learning Outcomes for American Sign Language Skills Levels 1-4 (Kim Brown Kurz & Marty M. Taylor, 2008).
The ASL learning outcomes were derived from the five Cs, or goals, developed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) to guide language learning:
Communication • Cultures • Connections • Comparisons • Communities
